“Symphony of Silence” (2001) 110m. (Armenia) directed by Vigen Chaldranian was the first film from Armenia to be submitted to the OSCARS for consideration for Best Foreign Language Film. PLOT: A successful American businessman who was once the most infamous criminal in Armenia, returns home to Armenia to make good on some promises from his past. He knows he has cancer and while he plans to only spend a short amount of time there, fate steps in and he soon finds himself running and living in a mental institution in which he was once imprisoned.

Lifetime Achievement Honoree 2002
Levon “Leo” Chaloukian, was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. “Leo” has won seven Emmy Awards for his work in sound. He began his career in 1955 at Ryder Sound Services, Inc. and assumed ownership of the company in 1976. Currently president of renamed Soundelux/Chace Optical Recording. Chaloukian and his staff have garnered more than 40 Emmy Awards for sound editing and also Academy Awards for “Platoon” and “Black Hawk Down.” Past president and later treasurer of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, “Leo” served on the California Film Commission under Governors Deukmejian and Wilson and was appointed a board member of the Los Angeles Film Development Committee under Mayor Tom Bradley.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
