Logline: Li Haipeng, a Chinese immigrant in LA, who receives a wedding invitation from his son in hometown, decides to make a choice between continuing his addiction and overcoming it.
Synopsis: Li Haipeng hasn’t gone back from Los Angeles to China for 20 years. He works as a cook in a Chinese restaurant and a single man at home. One day, he takes out 100 dollars for gambling from his periodical envelope with $500 cash to his son, Li Xiaopeng. As he checks his mailbox later at work, he finds a wedding invitation from Xiaopeng and a flight ticket inside a package. To celebrate this, he makes good dishes for his colleagues and reads the invitation to them word by word. Most importantly, he decides to quit gambling before his return. At dusk, he dresses in suit and tie and prepares a red packet for his son. He imagines what the wedding would be like and who he will meet. During the rehearsal of his performance in front of the imagined hometown folks, he confesses his guilt towards his son. Failing to hold his complicated emotion, Li Haipeng tears up his collected poker cards. At midnight, he call his son by WeChat. The ring sound flows around the room.
